Ida Valley

The Ida Valley was well represented at the REAL Women Biathlon in Queenstown over the weekend. I’d list the names of the local competitors that I saw but would risk leaving someone out given there were 1000 competitors to running past. Lets just say “Well done ladies”, a great effort on a glorious day… now what is the next event you’re going to enter and start training for?

Without necessarily knowing it, the crowd was fortunate to be entertained by two young performers from Poolburn  who decided it was time to take to the stage and cut some moves while competitors waited for the prize giving. Murmurs of “gosh… arn’t they good dancers, and very cute” were heard travelling througout the crowd. Well done chaps!

With just over one minute to spare, Graham completed the rail trail in under 24 hours, a monumental effort. To put it in context, thats just shy of four back to back marathons, and keep in mind that Pheidippides (the Greek foot soldier) dropped dead after his 42km run.  According to Graeme the support was fantastic and suprising with people coming out in their jammies to urge him on through the night and to donate to the fundraising cause. A truely super human effort!

By the time you read this, Graham Sinnamon will be heading towards Middlemarch to begin the 150 km epic or be on the trail. We wish you all the best Graham and look forward to chearing you on!

Over the next few weeks Sinnead and I are going to be following up Graham Sinnamon’s run. These are the questions we have all ready asked him and here are the anwsers. The hardest run he has been in is the Dunedin Marathon because he finds it hard running on tarseal for a long time. He also found the run to the clock in Alexandra for the Blosoom Festival hard  because although  it was  short it was very steep and hard. Another question we asked him was what he does when his body starts to hurt when running? His answer was to just to ignore it and carry on and find out what sort of pain it is. If it is a tired pain or if it’s a sore pain. His last question was what he was planning for his up coming event? He just wants to enioy it and have as much fun as possible. He is going to take a Rail Trail Passport and collect all of the stamps along the way, take a few pictures and just cruise. The reason he is doing the run is because he has always wanted to and he finally  has the support. Stay tuned as we will keep on updating the website on Graham Sinnimon’s run.

Today Bethany and I started ringing Graham and asking him questions about how he’s getting ready for his run. We asked him questions like, What’s the hardest run he’s been in? He replied that it was Dunedin Marathon and that he finds it hard to run on tarseal. Graham also  found the Blossom Festival run to the clock hard  because the hill was steep.  The next question was:  What does he do to push himself to keep going? Graham said he  just ignore it. The last question was, What is his plan for the upcoming event? Graham relied he wants to  enjoy it and get a rail trail passport at each point, he wants to get a few photos along the way as well. Graham said   that he’s always wanted to run the Rail Trail but he couldn’t get the support.  Graham will have   2 or 3 people doing it with him, so stay tuned for more about Graham Sinnimon and his run.
